Spring/Summer Look Book

well helllllloooo Spring!!! It’s nice to see you’ve finally arrived. Ok well not really, but a girl can dream right? It’s already March first so it’s safe to say winter is on its way out! A couple of weeks ago, I got together with my friend Rachel of Lively Creative Co to put together a mini Spring look book. With this look, I decided to incorporate all of my favourite Spring trends into one, fresh, fun outfit. That way I can explain each trend and why I love it! I had soooo much fun creating this for you guys, so I hope you enjoy the photos!!

  1. Florals/Contrasts – one thought came to mind when I put this together…
but for real though, nothing says spring like some vibrant florals, which is why I knew I definitely wanted to incorporate them in this look. I bought this ensemble a couple of years ago from Forever 21. It was an end of season clearance sale and an impulse buy, but still one of my favourite things in my closet. I’ve only really worn it once before because I wanted to save it for “something special” and well, sharing it with you guys turned out to be that special occasion. What I really love about it is the contrast of light and dark colours. The plum and mint green compliment each other so nicely. Although spring is all about being fresh and vibrant, I think it’s the perfect time to mix your bright, seasonal colours with dark, richer hues. It’s a transitional season therefore you need a transitional wardrobe. For example, pastel pants with a denim top of a dark sweater. The contrast of the shades allow your eyes to isolate each colour and appreciate each piece individually.
  2. Grays – grays are usually associated with winter, the weather is gray, the mood is gray and the wardrobe is gray, but this neutral colour really works in all seasons. I decided to throw this gray jacket over my shoulders to complete the look. I feel like it gives an element of classic romance to an otherwise modern ensemble.
  3. Statement Necklaces – Theres nothing I love more than a good, statement necklace. When Rachel first noticed the necklace I was wearing, I think her exact words were “whoa, that necklace is intense!”. Honestly, when it comes to spring style, you don’t need much other than a good, statement piece. Something to tie the whole outfit together in a pretty little bow. A nice cuff or a bold necklace can bring your outfit to a whole new level.

  4. Accessories – I bought this Kate Spade bag last year and it hasn’t left my side since. I bought it in the early spring as a birthday present to myself thinking it would be fantastic for the summer (which it was) but figured out how to transition it through all seasons. It matched with all my lighter outfits in the warmer months and served as a pop of colour for the winter months. I love this bag so much and I knew I wanted it to be part of the shoot
  5. Shoes – I debated going with a bright pop of colour for my shoes, but instead I went with a basic black pump. I felt like the darkness of the pump would match the dark aspects of the floral pattern without taking away too much from the outfit.

  6. Makeup – this was the fun part. I let my friend Caroleena do my makeup for the shoot. At first I thought I wanted something sparkly on the lid with a light, airy feel, but once we started playing with the colours, we created this phenomenal look. Using the colours in the floral pattern as inspiration, we went with a plum halo using Kat Von D Metal Crush Eyeshadow in the shade Metallic Violet. This stuff is pigmented as heck. I was playing around with the palates and swatched the Metallic Mermaid Green shade which ended up getting all over the place (not the makeups fault, I’m the clumsiest person ever). for the lid we used Buxom Eyeshadow Bar Single Eyeshadow in the shade iridescent mint. If you follow me on instagram you know how OBSESSED I am with the new buxom shadows. They come with a built in primer, so each shade is insanely pigmented. Do yourself a favour next time you’re in Sephora and swatch the shade Metallic Silver, it’s insane.
For the lips, I went with Anastasia Liquid Lipstick in the shade deepest plum. I felt like it would almost be expected to do a nude or pink lip for spring, which is why I wanted to break away from the norm.
