How to Wear Lolita & Lolita 2 for Day and Night

The Sephora gods must be listening to my prayers lately because not only did I find Champagne Pop in store the other day, but I also found Kat Von D’s Lolita lipstick today in the mini everlasting liquid lipstick kit (which includes Lolita and Lolita 2) and also a tube of the actual lipstick. At first I was just going to buy the lipstick, then I decided to get the liquid lipstick kit and forgo the tube of the old fashioned stuff, THEN I found out that was the last tube left in store and they didn’t know when they would be getting any new ones – basically the same story as the whole Champage Pop incident, so I took it as a sign to get both. Both Lolita and Lolita 2 are such rich colours that wearing them can be a tricky ordeal. If you’re blessed with tanned skin then the colour probably blends seamlessly into your natural palette; but for all of us pale people out there, the struggle is real.

I love rich, dark lipsticks, especially in the winter time so Lolita is going to come in handy this season, but my friend Sam had mentioned that she thought Lolita 2 was more of a summer colour. I can see where she’s coming from but I think the orange undertones can definitely transition through the seasons based on the rest of your outfit/makeup. I put this theory to the test and created a day look and a night look for each of the Lolita shades. I think that both would be great options for the holiday season.

Day Look –

Because this is such a rich, dark colour it could be a little intense for the day so I decided to tone down everything else on my face and really let the lipstick stand out.

Makeup I used:

  • Primer: Sephora ultra-smoothing primer
  • Consealer: Benefit Boi-ing (01)
  • Foundation: Sephora 10 HR wear perfection foundation (in the shade light, natural)
  • Bronzer: Kat Von D shade light palette
  • Highlighter: Kat Von D Shade light palette
  • Mascara: Tarte lights, camera, lashes
  • Eyeshadow: Tarte Eggnog
  • Lips: Kat Von D’s Lolita

This is basically my five minute face with a bit of lipstick slapped on, i wanted to keep it really basic and clean.

Night Look –

Again, because of the dark, rich tones in this shade, I felt that too much eye makeup would overpower my face. Instead I added a basic cat eye to the look. Because I don’t have a steady hand, I usually use black eyeshadow as a liner. I run an angled brush under warm water for a few seconds then pat it dry with a towel, I then dip the brush into my black shadow and apply it like I would a liquid or gel eyeliner. Because it’s a shadow I find it’s a lot easier to fix and play around with. I also contoured my cheeks a bit more with Kat Von D’s shade light palette for a more severe look.IMG_4120

Lolita 2

Day Look –

Lolita 2 is a lot more flirty and playful, so I had more fun with this look. For the day look, I played around with shadows to give my eyes dimension and depth while staying in the same colour family as the lipstick to give it a warmer, holiday look. After applying Tarte’s eggnog shade all over my lid, I went in with Tarte’s peach on earth in my crease and under eye. After blending, I applied Tarte’s baby it’s gold outside for a little bit of sparkle. I wouldn’t wear this look every day, but it’s a great day time look for a family holiday get together. IMG_4124

Night Look:

I had a little more fun with this night look, because the shade is so light, I was able to play up my eyes. I essentially used the same makeup I had on from the day look but added Tarte’s gingerbread mansion shade to my crease to give my eyes more depth. I then went in with an angled brush and added Tarte’s midnight kiss to my lashline to round out the night time look. I decided not to go with a darker contour on my cheeks for this look like I did with the regular Lolita because of the amount of makeup I had already applied to my eyes. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a makeup junkie but I don’t like to have too much on my face at once.IMG_4123

Either way, I love both shades and think that they will get a lot of use this season. I also purchased Bight Beauty’s limited edition Mauvember lipstick which raises awareness for prostate cancer. I feel like that shade is going to be a little trickier to pull off on my skintone, once I work out a look I’ll share it with you guys.
