Like most teenagers, I had pretty bad skin throughout my adolescent years. I remember being so oily that I had to pack Clean and Clear oil wipes in my bag and take “blotting breaks” between classes just so I would look like a normal human being. I used to be so embarrassed of my skin that I would sit in front of a magnifying mirror at night and just pick at it for hours. My mom always told me that I would regret it, that I would end up with scars all over my face but I never listened and like most things in life, my mom was right. Now, in my mid-twenties I’m dealing with the ghosts of acne past in the form of discoloured little spots all over my chin and cheeks. What’s more embarrassing than natural hormonal skin conditions in your teenage years? Scars all over your face as an adult.
Now that Summer is over and I can’t hide the discolouration under a sun-kissed glow anymore, It’s time to begin experimenting with different ways to cover up my trouble spots. I looked into getting them removed via laser but that was way too pricey. I’ve tried using bio oil but I’m the least consistent person you will ever meet so that obviously didn’t work out. I’ve always been a late bloomer in every aspect of my life, which is why I finally started to really get into make-up and thus discovered the beauty of concealer. I know, I know, this is a given to most people, but for those of you out there who are just starting to get into the make-up game, you’ll understand my excitement. I’ve probably tried every brand of concealer on the market, testing it out on different trouble spots and seeing which one gives the most coverage for the longest amount of time. I’ve finally found it “the one” my go-to, my ride or die concealer.
I’ve gushed about Benefit Cosmetics a few times on here, different items like the Roller Lash or Bad Gal mascara gave me new meaning in my life, and now I’ve discovered their boi-ing concealer. This industrial strength concealer will hide any dark spots or imperfections without being too cakey or fading away a couple of hours later. According to Benefit Cosmetics website
This award-winning concealer camouflages dark circles, minor imperfections and discoloration without creasing or fading. Even better…the industrial-strength
formula is now available in FIVE shades, with a full range from light to deep. Now all gals can be imperfection-free.
Trust me, coming from the girl who has tried literally everything to cover up her imperfections, this stuff really works. With your fingers, take a small amount of the concealer and rub between your pointer and thumb to warm it up, this will allow the product to glide on to your skin seamlessly, then gently blend. I first used the product with a brush but found that application with your fingers is far better (for me at least).
I still stand by having a healthy diet, staying hydrated and getting enough exercise to give your skin a natural glow, but sometimes you just need that extra boost of confidence!
